UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON STUDENT PROJECTS WITH WAWAC

Each quarter, WAWAC partners with both University of Washington Bothell and Seattle. Through this wonderful partnership, we are able to receive and train one on one each student that steps into WAWAC. These students come from many areas at UW, whether it’s UW Bothell Fieldwork classes, UW Seattle Public Health students, UW School of Architect students, UW Nursing Program Students, Students of Community-Oriented Public Health Practice (COPHP) with Practicums to complete, we receive student volunteers in all different programs. Majority of the students need to complete 40 hours minimum for their classes, while almost all end up finishing out the quarter for the entire 3 months going past 40 hours which is highly recommended here at WAWAC. Some, based on program or degree, stay for up to 6 months or more at WAWAC. With student volunteers coming every quarter, being assigned to different departments based solely on their interests, we build them a schedule and are able to train them on how to carry out required tasks/projects in their departments. Throughout these years, we have had amazing work done, in which we would like to share the different kinds of projects and studies that have taken place at the Washington West African Center.

UW HIGHLIGHTED STUDENT PROJECTS:

Noelle Gregorini, former graduated University of Washington Bothell Student volunteer from the BHS496 Fieldwork program 2022, went above and beyond. She completed over 75 hours of volunteer work in just the span of 2 months over the summer. She worked within the BIDEWW After-school program and was able to create the entire years’ worth of curriculum, structure, and newfound process for Bideww indefinitely. Due to this, she has now become an employee of WAWAC for almost 3 years, working as the Executive Assistant and After-School Program Director to date. Here is one of her many projects completed at the time of her program: “Healthy Behaviors Booklet” on her research of mental health for WAWAC After-School Bideww program in 2022.
